Foothill Country Dancers promotes New England-style contra dancing in the northern Sierra Nevada foothills. Contra dancing is non-commercial, do-it-yourself, socially inclusive, community-building, participatory, musically driven recreation. No experience is necessary--all dances are taught and prompted, and no partner is required. The music is always live.

FCD sponsors the annual 12-hour sprung-floor dance festival Fall Has Sprung, and two regular monthly dances:

Grass Valley Veterans' Memorial Auditorium

Our 13th annual 12-hour contrafest, known far and wide as a day of fabulous dancing. Three great bands and callers, an ongoing munchie-potluck, and a comfortable, spacious hall in a friendly Gold-Rush-era town in the beautiful Sierra Foothills. This year's lineup of talent: Elixir with Nils Fredland, Contra Sutra with Warren Blier (and Joyce), and Hot Cider with Joyce Miller (and Warren). Save the date and plan to make a weekend of it!
