Foothill Country Dancers promotes New England-style contra dancing in the northern Sierra Nevada foothills. Contra dancing is non-commercial, do-it-yourself, socially inclusive, community-building, participatory, musically driven recreation. No experience is necessary--all dances are taught and prompted, and no partner is required. The music is always live.

FCD sponsors the annual 12-hour sprung-floor dance festival Fall Has Sprung, and two regular monthly dances:

The fifth-Saturday Truckee dance returns! It's a delight to dance in the mountains during the summer, and you can combine the trip to the dance with camping, hiking, floating down the Truckee River, or many other similar activities. This event is sponsored by three contra-dance groups: Foothill Country Dancers, Sierra Contra Dance Society (Reno), and Sacramento Country Dance Society. Music provided by Hot Cider, with calling by Joyce Miller. Admission is $12.
