Foothill Country Dancers promotes New England-style contra dancing in the northern Sierra Nevada foothills. Contra dancing is non-commercial, do-it-yourself, socially inclusive, community-building, participatory, musically driven recreation. No experience is necessary--all dances are taught and prompted, and no partner is required. The music is always live.

FCD sponsors two regular monthly dances:

Nevada City

Nevada City Odd Fellows Hall, 212 Spring St.

Holiday Dance and Dessert Potluck

Our festive annual holiday contra dance. Dance away the night immediately preceding the Winter Solstice, taking a break for consumption of delicious desserts and other treats with your dancing friends. What better way to spend one of the longest nights of the year, right in the middle of Hannukah and five days before Christmas?

Community Potluck

Enjoy a sumptuous pre-dance meal and socialize with your dance buddies. Please bring a dish for sharing. We'll clean up in time for the newcomers' workshop at 7:30.

Family Dance

Easy-to-do dances for the whole family. Simple figures, different formations, live music. Anyone can do it and have lots of fun. Admission ($9 adults, $8 members, $5 kids, $20 family maximum) includes the evening contra dance, which everyone is encouraged to attend.
